About The Sample Sale

What exactly is a sample sale?

Unlike regular retail stores, bridal boutiques do not stock each dress style in multiple sizes; instead, we purchase one (or sometimes two) ‘sample’ gowns for brides to try on. Think about it like buying a new car, or trying out a new pair of skis - you’re looking at model or style, and your own specific item will be custom ordered. Because we buy new stock twice a year, and most brides purchase a new-order gown, we accumulate a lot of samples over time! When it’s time to refresh our inventory or make some space for new styles, we have a chance to help brides find an incredible gown at a deeply discounted price point.

When you purchase a sample dress, you are purchasing it AS IS - this means that the store does not fix any damage, clean the dress, or alter it prior to you taking it home. However, we have an amazing seamstress who has worked with many brides to make sample gowns look brand new! Plus, our gowns have only been on the floor since March, so they’re in great shape to take home already, with minimal wear and tear. Alterations are required on a bridal gown whether it’s new or ‘used’, the only difference is that a sample may require slightly more work - for example, fixing loose beads or repairing a damaged zipper - and may need spot treatment or cleaning.

Buying a sample gown is just a great way to find a dress you love for less - even if it might need a little TLC!

 FAQs

  • Yes - we are requiring a discounted fee of $50 - which will be applied to a purchase at the shop now or at any time in the future. We will also offer prosecco and sweets at no charge in celebration of our first big event!

  • Sample sale appointments are 90 minutes - we will not be offering VIP (two hour) appointments during the sale. However, we do leave a buffer between clients just in case!

  • Every gown on the floor is for sale! There are a handful of dresses that we need to keep in inventory, and we have stored those away safely. If we think one of those could be a good fit, we’ll check with you first to ask if you’re also open to a new-order gown and if you’d want to try it on. But for the most part, you’ll be choosing from whatever is on the racks!

This does not include jewelry and veils. We will mark veil samples that are for sale, but most are only available for special order. There is also a selection of jewelry and hair sample pieces for sale, which will be displayed separately.

  • No - purchasing a sample gown means purchasing it as is and making any changes or repairs during the alterations process. Our in-house seamstress is an expert in bridal tailoring and has made many sample gowns look brand new for their brides!

  • For sample gowns, we require payment in full at the time of purchase.

We do, however, understand it is a big purchase all at once. If you cannot pay in full up front, please let your stylist know and we can have a discreet conversation about what options we may have to help make your dream dress a reality.

  • Unfortunately, we are a small store and simply do not have the space to store a large quantity of gowns. We can review on a case by case basis (for example, if you live out of state) but in most situations cannot store your dress.

  • Yes! None of the gowns in our inventory have been discontinued. If you are okay purchasing a new gown and find one you love, we are more than happy to order it. However, there is no discount for new gowns so please discuss pricing with your stylist to make sure it works with your budget.

  • Well, that’s probably a sign it’s your dress! The serious answer is that unfortunately we cannot hold a dress for you. If the dress does not sell, we will let you know at the end of sale and work with you on a plan to make it yours.

  • Nope!

Shoes: I strongly recommend NOT bringing a pair of heels, since the sample gowns are very long and there is always lots of fabric around that’s easy to slip on. Flip flops or socks works, slippers… whatever you’re comfortable in! We also have disposable hotel slippers here if you prefer those.

Spanx/Shape-wear: Some brides do opt to bring shape-wear (personally, I always bring or wear shape-wear when trying on dresses or skirts). Most brides end up wearing it on their wedding day for a variety of reasons, so it can be helpful in seeing how the dress will look realistically. However, it is NOT necessary - regular ol’ undies are just fine!

Bras: You do NOT need a strapless bra, sticky boobs, or anything else like that. Almost all bridal gowns have built-in bust cups and support, and during alterations these will be swapped for your exact size so that the bust and bodice fit perfectly and stay in place. Of course, if you are more comfortable wearing a bra during your appointment that’s totally okay! We’ll work with you to make sure you feel comfortable and understand what the final garment will look like sans-bra.

  • Our store can comfortably accommodate 4-5 guests (not including the bride). If you’d like to bring more, we can make arrangements for 1-2 additional guests with at least a day’s notice. However, after many years of experience, my recommendation is to bring only 2-3 people that you truly trust and feel comfortable with. If there is someone you know has to be there for the moment you say yes to the dress, make sure they are one of those people!
