FAQs

Our store can comfortably accommodate 4-5 guests, and we can make space for 1-2 more with advance notice. However: After many years helping brides say yes, my strong recommendation is to bring 2-3 people with whom you feel safe, comfortable, and excited! Three seems to be the magic number. Additionally: If there is someone you know absolutely has to be there when you say yes to the dress, make sure they’re with you! There’s no bigger let-down than realizing you’ve found The One and you want to say yes sooo badly but have to wait. Always assume success, and be ready for your magic moment!

Nope!
Shoes: I advise brides not to bring a pair of heels unless they play a critical role in the head-to-toe style of the dress (like those red cowboy boots you’ve been dying to wear all these years). Sample bridal gowns are verrrry long, even on tall brides, and we don’t want anyone tripping and ruining a great experience! Socks, flip flops, slippers… wear whatever you feel comfortable in! We also offer disposable hotel slippers (with grippy bottoms!) in case you prefer those. Barefoot is also cool!
Spanx/Shapewear: This is totally up to you! Personally, I always prefer to bring shapewear with me when trying on dresses, and some brides do as well. However, regular ol’ undies work just fine! Most brides do end up wearing shapewear on their wedding day for a variety of reasons, but it is not necessary to try on gowns.
NOTE: Down the road, if you are looking for a great place to find the right fit for under your gown, we love Tutti Bellissima right down the road from our store in Norwell, as well as Bloom in Cohasset. Support local businesses! We’re also happy to arrange for your gown or the sample of your gown to be at your undergarment appointment so you can try everything on together.
Strapless Bra: You do NOT need a strapless bra, sticky boobs, or anything like that! Almost all bridal gowns have bust cups built in, which are tailored perfectly to your shape in alterations so that the bust and bodice not only fit perfectly but do not require constant attention on your wedding day. If you do feel more comfortable wearing a bra during our appointment, that’s okay too! We will work with you to make sure you feel comfortable and can get a sense of what the garment will look like sans bra.

Unlike most retail stores, bridal boutiques stock 1-2 sample gowns for each style that we offer. This means that every client tries on the same garment, and then we custom order your gown. Every designer has a different size chart, so your size will likely not be consistent across designers or even styles. Once you decide on a dress, we take your measurements and align it with the designer’s to select the right size.
Most of our samples are between sizes 8-14, with most samples in the 10-12 range. We do try to stock styles we love in two sizes to fit brides of all sizes.

YES!! A million times yes!! We have lots of tricks to make sure our curvy brides can try on the majority of gowns in the store.
If you are a bride who wears a size 14-16+ in regular clothes, and you’re worried about having a variety of gowns to choose from, PLEASE email me directly and I’m happy to help talk through what you’re looking for so we can make sure you have plenty of options available. Many designers have a loaner program which means that we can select styles you want to try on that we do NOT have in store, and they will ship them here directly for your appointment. More often than not, this means we can select the size of the sample for you as well. This is a great program to take advantage of and I’m more than happy to work with you ahead of your appointment to curate a selection of gowns in sizing that will be easy to try on. As a size 14-16 girl myself (I’m a bridal 18), I relate completely and want to make sure you have the best possible experience.

No! While some brides have a general sense of what they’re looking for, many come in with a totally open mind. We always start your appointment with an open discussion about your overall wedding aesthetic and how you want the gown to fit in. I also encourage you to let me know if there are any specific things you want to be taken into account - for example, covering a certain scar or any religious requirements.
My advice is to select a few (3-5) adjectives that you think align with your overall ~vibe~. A few words I use often are romantic, bold, understated, playful, unique. Here are a few examples you might know well:
Kate Middleton (Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen): soft, feminine, modest, symmetrical, timeless
Meghan Markle (Givenchy): understated, contemporary, bold, alluring
Leslie Knope on Parks & Recreation (Costumer - Kirston Leigh Mann): One of my all time favorite dresses in pop culture, I’d describe her dress, designed by Ann Perkins, as playful, one-of-a-kind, bold, personal, and uniquely romantic

That’s also okay! Our gowns range from about $2,000 to $8,000 with the majority in the $2500-4500 range. In this case, I usually have you select what you want to try on, and then review pricing with you privately as we start to work through the dresses.

Absolutely!
If there are any group dynamics or specific guests you are concerned about, please let me know and we’ll work together to create a plan and make sure that your voice is the only one that matters and that you continue to feel comfortable. We’ve seen it all!
It’s totally normal to feel a weird mix of nerves and excitement.
Don’t overwhelm yourself with options. The paradox of choice is something brides deal with constantly, and it is especially prominent during the dress shopping process. I recommend setting up 1 appointment at a time, on different weekends, and going into each appointment assuming success rather than assuming you need to see a hundred dresses before deciding.
YOURS IS THE ONLY OPINION THAT MATTERS.
Yes, many brides say yes during the first appointment! It’s totally normal, and one that I am always honored to be a part of.
